How to sharpen your razor with jeans

Are you tired of using your nice razor for 2 weeks only to have it dull out and stop working? New blades are not cheap and can go for over 20$ for a 4 pack!

Today I will be showing you how to stretch the life of those blades to double and sometimes triple the normal life!

First things first. What exactly is a dull blade?
A dull blade is one that is no longer flat and smooth. A dull blade has little splinters of metal popping up and out making it hard to achieve a smooth shave.

You will also notice more razor burn when your blade is dull and more cuts because these little splinters get bigger and dig deeper into your skin pulling it up causing your blade to dig into the skin.

When you pass your dry blade on a pair of jeans backwards the little ripples in the tough jeans rip out these splinters leaving your blade much much smoother and sharper!

So finally lets get down to the steps.

What you will need
1. A pair of old jeans
2. A razor that is dulling.

Steps.
1: Take your pair of jeans and place it on the counter (Or wear them at the time)

2: Take the razor and run it along your jeans using long strokes. Remember to stroke away from the handle. you do not want to cut your jeans!

3: after 10 backward strokes blow on the blade to remove any metal splinters or run it under water for 10 seconds.

Store and enjoy saving money!

This worked on all manual razors but I only recommend doing it 2 or 3 times per razor. As you strip off more metal your blade will become more and more serrated and you could end up with a bad cut if you are not careful.

Enjoy!

  1. This will only hone a blade, not sharpen it.

I think razors in particular don't need to be sharpened, just buy a new one.

Thank you for clearing up that is hones the blade. I did not know what honing was until just now when I looked it up after your comment :)

  3. I almost felt like this was a infomercial at the start, but wait there is more! Always good to conserve a little more, especially since most people's money is a bit tight.

  12. I'm not really understanding what the purpose of the razors are...but I bet this would work for the exacto things I use for class projects. Thanks!

  13. If you have some hair on your arms, you can run the blade against your arms for the same effect!

  14. Like @Makel mentioned you can do this on your arm, but you don't even need hair. I often do this on the non-hairy side of my forearm to hone before I shave.

  16. I just tried it! Results:
1st impression- Cleaned the blades/removed rust
Test- I actually noticed a change! More comfortable shave.
I tested this on an old blade, shaved half of face, honed on jeans, then did other side.
    Great post! Added to mc.
